Anxiety
What is Anxiety about?
It is an excessive concern about the uncertainty of what will happen to us in the future, which persists over time and seems to never end.
It's an involuntary response of the body to events that are often perceived as threatening and/or dangerous, and it also prepares the body for future situations. At the right time, it's positive because by putting us on alert, it helps us overcome the obstacles that life presents us.
The problem begins when things get out of control, disrupting people's daily lives and impacting different areas of our lives: work, school, family, relationships, etc.
What causes it?
Anxiety can be caused by 4 different axes:
- Sudden changes (change of residence, pregnancy, job loss, marriage)
- Traumatic events (traffic accidents, exposure to insecurity, sexual abuse, death of a family member)
- Genetics (Close relatives with this condition)
- Ingesting substances (Narcotics, drugs, alcohol)
Can this feeling be treated or removed?
Of course, yes, and the first step is to accept that we have it, recognize the feeling, and seek help from a professional who can guide you through the process to discuss it, understand it, and resolve it. It's possible, and no one deserves to live with anxiety.
How do I know if I have anxiety?
Anxiety comes in many forms, but we will focus on two main areas:
- Physical Aspects: Excessive sweating, irregular heart rate, tachycardia, muscle pain, sleep problems.
- Psychological Aspects: Anguish, fear, recurrent desire to cry, uncertainty.
